An art residency for alterative art in the Japanese quiet countryside, with a special focus on dance and performance art.

Wild Art YESE! lies in Hakusan, Mie-ken, a prefecture with many sources of natural inspiration…Famous sites in Mie include the Ise-Jingu and the Kumano Kodo (an UNESCO world heritage/ an ancient pilgrimage walking path).

Noteworthy milestones of YESE!

1) Converting a damaged house (built 1970) into a dance studio; 2012- 2014

The site consists of three houses. We had to clear major termite damage in the oldest one, which wasn’t apparent when we first found the place. We had to strip walls and removing the entire floor. Next was dealing with the damp and reinforcing supports for the roof. We could finally build a new dance floor and adjoining ateliers/all-purpose rooms. We managed to do this through two cold winters and little money… thanks to the support of professionals and volunteers.

2) Collaborations and support for artists; 2013- present

We’ve been collaborating almost since the inception of YESE!  with a young painter Shinpei Hamaguchi in a series of action painting dance performance venues throughout Mie. This culminated in a tour of Germany, where we did action painting/dance/music shows(impro-performances). Following an intense 2 months, a new exhibition of Shinpei’s new work, inspired by Germany was exhibited at YESE! along with two artists in a show entitled “MORTAL KOMBAT, 3 Artists celebrate 3 years of YESE! with 3 different styles”. (2015『三者三様』展).

Later we organized another exhibition “Iki”with two artist and a photographer. (2017 『息』展)

Recently we organized solo exhibition of Shinpei ” Fairies gathering”. (2025『濱口新平 妖精大集合展 synchronicity』)

3) Butoh workshop; 2015-present

Our companion Yumiko Yoshioka is worldwide famous Butoh-ka organizing regular workshops in Japan only with us. Her workshop is called “Body Resonance”   which started in 1995.

During her workshop participants can experience not only Yumiko as Japanese but also nostalgic Japanese living.
